“The Wind,” a Drum and Bass single released on Impossible Records in late 2020, is the first collaboration between Atlanta-based musician All Fires and EDM drummer/producer KJ Sawka. All Fires, probably better known as the youtuber ‘Everything Always’, fresh off the success of his freshman release and wanting to enter the DnB genre, immediately found a home in Sawka’s label and the collaborative release was a natural progression of kindred style, sound, and intentions for the song.
“The Wind” is an explosive track carved in the likeness of classic Drum and Bass. Sawka’s signature drum style and sound design navigates an elaborate but extremely hype soundscape accentuating the keytar synth riffs for which All Fires has become known. With all the hallmarks you’d expect: over-clocked tempo, slapping snares, and a pumping bass line, the DnB genre may be timeless, but the track’s message is quite the opposite, as All Fires attempts to simplify the impermanence of human existence, “over and over again... we all become a voice amongst the wind.”
